NANAWAGAN si House Committee on Human Rights Chairman at City of Manila 6th Dist. Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. sa sambayanan na isama sa panalangin ngayon Araw ng Undas ang libu-libong biktima ng extrajudicial killings (EJKs) na kalakip ng madugong giyera kontra droga sa ilalim ng nakalipas na administrasyon.
“As Chair of the Committee on Human Rights in the House of Representatives, I also ask that the thousands of victims of tokhang or extrajudicial killings be remembered,” pahayag ni Abante na tumatayong co-chairman ng House Quad Committee.
“The killers and the masterminds of the brutal war on drugs have not yet been arrested, prosecuted, convicted, and incarcerated for their heinous crimes,” dugtong ng House panel head.
Para kay Abante, hindi angkop ibaon sa limot ang kabi-kabilang patayan sa aniya’y pekeng drug war ng nakaraang administrasyon.
“Collective national amnesia is one of the enemies of justice. The wheels of justice turn too slowly in our country,” ayon sa kongresistang pastor.
“For these reasons, I ask the Supreme Court to recommend to Congress the enactment of laws that will set fair and reasonable deadlines on criminal cases to uphold the right of victims to speedy justice,” ani Abante.
“The right to due process is being abused at the expense of the victims. This is why we seek the guidance of the Supreme Court on this matter. We seek fairness and balance,” dagdag pa niya.
Sa isa sa mga pagdinig ng Quad Comm, sinabi ng dating general manager ng Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) na si retired Police Col. Royina Garma, na may reward system sa Duterte drug war.
Ang pagbibigay ng cash reward ang itinuturong dahilan kung bakit marami ang napaslang sa pagpapatupad ng Duterte drug war. Posible umanong umabot ang bilang ng mga nasawi sa 30,000.
Ang reward ay naglalaro umano sa P20,000 hanggang P1 milyon depende sa target.
Nagpahayag din ng paniniwala si dating Commissioner ng National Police Commission (Napolcom) na si Edilberto Leonardo na totoo ang sinabi ni Garma tungkol sa reward. Ang dalawa ay kapwa kilalang malapit kay Duterte.
Samantala, hiniling din ng co-chairman ng Quad Comm sa mga Pilipino na isama sa kanilang panalangin ngayong Undas ang mga biktima ng hazing.
“As a family advocate, I gently remind the public during the Undas holidays to offer prayers for comfort and justice for the families of many hazing victims whose cases have not yet led to the final conviction of their murderers,” pahabol ni Abante.
