WALA sanang malawakang patayan sa kampanya kontra droga ng pamahalaan kung walang pondong inilaan ang Kongreso sa inakalang adbokasiya ng dating Pangulo.
Pag-amin ni Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante na tumatayong chairman ng House Committee on Human Rights, inaprubahan ng mga nakaraang Kongreso ang pondo para sa war on drugs campaign ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Gayunpaman, nilinaw ni Abante na hindi layon ng Kamara pahintulutan ang implementasyon ng extrajudicial killings sa all-out-war na idineklara ni Duterte sa panahon ng kanyang panunungkulan sa Palasyo.
Ginawa ni Abante ang pahayag kasunod ng kabi-kabilang batikos laban sa mga mambabatas na nagbigay-suporta sa kampanya kontra droga ng nagdaang administrasyon.
Aniya, ang pondong inilaan ng Kamara ay naglalayong tugunan ang problema ng ilegal na droga — at hindi para wakasan ang buhay ng mga inosenteng sibilyan, gayundin yaong mga pinaslang base sa hinala.
“The bloody drug war implemented during the Duterte administration… did not solve the drug problem. In fact, it worsened it, creating more harm than good by orphaning thousands of children who lost their parents, often the family breadwinners, on mere suspicion of involvement in drugs,” wika ng kongresistang nagdidiin kay Duterte.
“The victimized families, left fatherless by Oplan Tokhang and Oplan Double Barrel, are now even poorer five to ten years later. With no support from their slain breadwinners, these children and relatives struggle to get a proper education, and as a result end up as street children who often get involved in petty crimes due to their poverty. Instead of solving the problem, the previous administration exacerbated it,” dugtong ng mambabatas.
Sa gitna aniya ng hayagang patayan na tinawag niyang pekeng digmaan laban sa drogang kanser ng lipunan, namayani ang katahimikan dahil sa takot.
“Media outlets were silenced, and those who opposed the drug war — such as lawyers, judges, and politicians — were implicated in illegal drugs. Their names were unjustifiably included in publicized drug lists, and they were later murdered because of it – with no thorough police investigation following their deaths,” paliwanag ng solon.
Lumalabas umano sa imbestigasyon, naging masigasig ang mga pulis dahil sa pabuyang inilaan sa tuwing may namatay na drug suspect.
“In simple terms, the Duterte government used taxpayers’ money, through intelligence funds, to kill thousands of Filipino drug suspects deprived of due process – including innocents,” aniya pa.
“Duterte emboldened the police to commit abuses and murders, by saying ‘kill them, and I’ll take care of you.”
