HINDI angkop na hayaan na lang ng gobyerno ang pagpapahirap sa bayan ng mga oligarko sa likod ng mga kumpanyang pasok sa enerhiya, ayon sa isang militanteng kongresista.
Hirit ni House Deputy Minority Leader at ACT Teachers partylist Rep. France Castro, ibalik sa gobyerno ang kontrol sa power sector, kasabay ng patutsada sa Meralco kaugnay ng anunsyo hinggil sa ipapataw na P2.14 kada kilowatt hour na dagdag-presyo ng kuryente ngayong buwan.
“People have long suffered from high electricity rates. While there are short-term measures we can implement, we must not lose sight of the ultimate solution: the nationalization of our power sector,” wika ni Castro.
Sa panibagong anunsyo ng Meralco, lumalabas na papalo na sa P11.60 ang singil ng naturang kumpanya sa kada kilowatt hour ng kuryente – malayo sa P9.45 noong nakaraang buwan.
“Only through nationalization can we ensure that our power resources truly serve the interests of the Filipino people. This is not just about lower rates, but about energy security, sustainability, and sovereignty,” dugtong ni Castro.
Habang isinasaayos ang proseso ng pagbabalik sa gobyerno ng kontrol ng Meralco, nanawagan si Castro sa pamahalaan na balikatin ang generation charge sa tuwing mababa ang suplay sa gitna ng mataas na demand bunsod ng pagkasira ng mga planta.
Dapat rin aniyang paspasan ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ang pagplantsa sa mga rate resets.
“As it is, all rate resets need to be done by the regulator, not the utility company. A timely rate-setting decision is the solution to obtain fair and reasonable rates in a timely manner,” paliwanag ni Castro.
“While some may see the recent ERC ruling and refunds as progress, we must remember that these are merely band-aid solutions to a systemic problem. The power sector, dominated by private interests, continues to prioritize profit over public service,” pagtatapos ng militanteng kongresista.
