UPANG matugunan ang iba’t-ibang pangangailangan sa serbisyong medikal ng overseas Filipino workers (OFW), hiniling ni KABAYAN Partylist Rep. Ron Salo sa Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) na magtalaga ng mga kawani sa mga embahada ng Pilipinas sa ibang bansa.
Sa kanyang pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga OFW sa United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Qatar, Hong Kong, at iba pang mga bansa, ipinagbigay-alam at personal ding naobserbahan ni Salo ang pagiging epektibo ng PhilHealth sa pagkolekta ng kontribusyon mula sa mga Pinoy na nagtatrabaho sa labas ng Pilipinas.
Subalit ang malungkot, kapag ang mga OFW na ang lalapit umano sa government health insurer, pahirapan bago ibigay na medical benefits ng ahensya.
“PhilHealth’s collection system is highly efficient, which we commend. However, the availability of services for OFWs needs improvement,” saad ni Salo.
“Our OFWs, who contribute significantly to the country’s economy through remittances, deserve more accessible health services, including immediate processing of claims. We have agencies like the DFA, DMW, OWWA, Pag-IBIG, and SSS present in our embassies and consulates, but sadly, PhilHealth is missing.” Pagbibigay-diin pa KABAYAN party-list solon.
Sa kanyang liham sa PhilHealth Board of Directors, iminungkahi ni Salo na magtalaga ang attachés o personnel sa mga bansang mayroong malaking bilang ng OFW ang naturang ahensya, partikular sa Middle East (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman), Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, at Italy, na siyang direkta at mabilis na mag-aasikaso sa healthcare concerns ng mga OFWs.
Hinimok din niya ang PhilHealth na makipag-partner sa local health facilities sa ibang bansa para magkaroon ng agarang access sa healthcare services ang mga Pinoy overseas workers.
“It is critical that OFWs have quicker and easier access to healthcare services while they are abroad. PhilHealth should actively explore partnerships with hospitals and clinics in key OFW destinations to make sure that our workers can easily claim the benefits they have paid for.”
