BAHAGYANG maiibsan ang kalbaryo ng mga mamamayan sa napipintong hakbang tugon ng administrasyon sa bisa ng inaprubahang emergency powers na nagbibigay pahintulot sa Pangulo suspindehin o tapyasan ang excise tax sa mga produktong petrolyo.
Ayon kay Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, nakatutok ang administrasyon at ang Kamara sa bawat kaganapan sa Middle East, partikular sa epekto ng global oil price increase at hamon sa pagkakaroon ng matatag na suplay.
Partikular na tinukoy ni Romualdez ang inaprubahan House Bill 8418 na pangunahing akda nina Speaker Faustino Dy III at Majority Leader Sandro Marcos.
Kapag ganap na naisabatas, kumbinsido si Romualdez na agad na matatapyasan ng mula P6 hanggang P10 ang presyo kada litro ng mga produktong petrolyo sa merkado.
“The amount may be small, given that pump prices will increase again, but the government is providing other forms of assistance,” diin pa ni Romualdez.
Sa panig ng pamunuan ng Kamara, nanindigan si Dy na sapat ang kapangyarihang iginawad ng kongreso kay Marcos para maibsan ang tinaguriang fuel price shocks.
Bukod sa HB 8418, aprubado na sa Kamara ang House Bill 8469 na nagsusulong ipahinto ang mandatory biofuel blending sa ilalim ng Biofuels Act of 2006, sa gitna na rin ng nagpapatuloy na tensiyon sa Middle East.
“These measures give our President stronger and more flexible tools to protect Filipinos from fuel price shocks. When global oil prices surge, the government must be able to act quickly to stabilize pump prices and shield families, commuters, and businesses from its ripple effects.”
“When global oil prices spike, ordinary Filipinos feel the impact immediately. This bill ensures the government has the flexibility to intervene and prevent runaway increases in pump prices and inflation,” pahayag ng lider ng Kamara.
Paliwanag ni Dy, kapag isinantabi muna ang mandatory biofuel blending, mababawasan ang production cost ng ilang produktong petrolyo tulad ng diesel at gasolina subalit iginiit niyang patuloy pa rin isusulong ang paggamit ng renewable energy.
“We support renewable energy, but when blending requirements drive up pump prices, the government must have the flexibility to act in the interest of consumers and the general public,” sabi pa niya.
