ARESTADO sa mga tauhan ng National Bureau of Investigation ang isang opisyal ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) matapos umanong masangkot sa extortion laban sa isang pribadong korporasyon.
Bagamat hindi pinangalanan ang opisyal, ibinahagi ng NBI ang posisyon ng suspek sa naturang ahensya — isang miyembro ng board of directors.
Kasunod ng pagdakip, agad na isinailalim ang naturang opisyal sa preventive suspension habang nagsasagawa ng sariling imbestigasyon.
“Rest assured, however, that operations in the SEC will carry on as usual and will be unhampered by this development,” garantiya ng SEC sa isang pahayag.
Pag-amin ni SEC chairman Francis Lim, mismong ang ahensya ang nakipag-ugnayan sa NBI sa hangaring protektahan ang integridad ng SEC.
“We want to emphasize that the SEC coordinated with the NBI in the operation, has initiated administrative proceedings, and will continue to do what is necessary under the circumstances, including full cooperation with other government agencies and the aggrieved party,” pahayag pa ng komisyon.
“This incident exemplifies our commitment to strengthening accountability and pursuing meaningful reforms—not only in the capital markets we regulate, but within the SEC itself,” dagdag pa ng ahensya.
