GANITO binatikos Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri nitong Lunes sa patuloy na pagsira ng China sa coral reefs sa Rozul Reef na nagdulot nang hindi maibabalik na kasiraan sa sistema ng ekolohiya sa karagatan.
Kasabay nito, umapela din si Zubiri sa Chinese Embassy sa Maynila na itigilang walang habas na pagsira ng marine resources ng China sa loob mismo ang karagatan na pag-aari ng Pilipinas West Philippine Sea.
“I hope our friends at the Chinese Embassy are listening. They should protect our natural resources. We allow them for freedom of navigation, but if they destroy those coral reefs and wanton harvest of our marine resources, I think that’s foul,” ayon kay Zubiri.
Sinabi ni Zubiri na kahit hindi iginagalang ng China ang arbitral ruling na pag-aari ng Pilipinas ang karagatan na kanilang pinanghihimasukan, dapat irespeto nila ang marine resources ng bansa dahil kakaiba ang mga ito.
“You know those coral reefs, it takes hundreds of years to create, to build. That is God’s gift to human beings. That is the breeding ground of our fish,” ayon kay Zubiri.
Inihayag pa ni Zubiri na nakipagpulong siya kina Senador Loren Legarda at Sonny Angara kasama si Environment Secretary Maria Antonio Yulo-Loyzaga, sa pagtatayo ng marine ranger stations sa lugar upang matiyak na nababantayan ang ating karagatan.
“We will put a ranger station there so that it can be properly guarded. Because if not, our fishermen will suffer. It’s going to be a food security issue, we will lose fish in these areas,” ayon kay Zubiri.
Ayon kay Zubiri, kailangan nang mahigit P600 milyon upang magtayo ng marine ranger station sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng Pilipinas kabilang ang West Philippine Sea.
“We will be having one off the coast of Pangasinan, we will have one off the coast of Palawan as well. These are the marine ranger stations that will watch over our ocean,” giit niya.
Sa hiwalay na interview, sinabi ni Senador Ronald dela Rosa na walang ibang pamaamraan na mapatigil ang China sa pagsira ng ating karagatan kundi sa pamamagitan ng puwersa. Ngunit, aniya, hindi ito kakayanin ng bansa sa ngayon.
“To stop them, there’s no way there’s no way [but] to use force. That we cannot afford for the time being, so at least we can expose what they are doing to the whole world,” ayon kay dela Rosa.
