TINIYAK ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez na agad na uusad ang imbestigasyon ng Kamara para alamin kung bakit nagkakaroon ng malaking pagkakaiba sa farm gate prices at halaga ng bentahan sa mga pamilihan ng iba’t-ibang pangunahing produktong pagkain.
Ang pahayag ay ginawa ng lider ng Kamara kasunod ang pakikipag pulong nila ni House Deputy Majority Leader Erwin Tulfo sa mga kinatawan ng producers, retailers, at grocery stores hinggil na rin sa patuloy na pagtaas sa presyo ng basic commodities.
“I would ask Chairman Mark Enverga of the Committee on Agriculture to immediately start the ball rolling for an investigation into the disconnect between farmgate and retail prices of basic goods,” wika ni Romualdez
“The discrepancy between farmgate and retail prices of basic goods is alarming and warrants immediate attention. We cannot ignore the plight of our farmers who are struggling to make ends meet, nor can we turn a blind eye to the burden placed on consumers,” dagdag pa ng lider ng 300-plus strong House of Representatives.
Sa nasabing meeting, ipinabatid ni Jayson Cainglet ng Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) kay Romualdez na ang farmgate prices ng bigas, manok, baboy at maging ang sibuyas ay walang naging pagbabago sa nakalipas na tatlong buwan kung kaya walang dahilan para tumaas ang presyo nito sa mga pamilihan.
Bilang tugon, sinabi ni Speaker Romualdez na sa pamamagitan ng oversight function ng Kamara ay bubusisiin nila ang malaking pagkakaiba sa pagitan ng farmgate prices at aktwal na presyo sa pamilihan.
Target din ng lider-kongresista silipin ang mga umiiral na batas para malaman kung kailangan na ng karampatang amyenda para protektahan ang interes ng food producers, consumers at traders.
“It is imperative that we conduct a comprehensive review of our laws to ensure that they effectively safeguard the interests of our farmers and consumers. We must take proactive measures to prevent profiteering and promote a fair and transparent trading environment,” aniya.
Hinimok naman ng House Speaker ang lahat ng stakeholders, kabilang ang mga kinauukulan ahensya ng pamahalaan, industry representatives, at consumer advocacy groups na aktibong sumali sa isasagawang House probe.
“At the end of the day, we want to make sure that all the stakeholders in whatever industry or sectors are viable, if they are in the business side of it, so that it becomes sustainable so that we can continue delivering basic goods and services to the consumers at sustainable, affordable prices.”
