HINILING ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez sa Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) na isumite ang comprehensive strategic modernization plan na gagamitin ng Kamara bilang basehan sa paglalaan ng pondo sa ilalim ng annual budget ng gobyerno.
Ani Speaker Romualdez, na isang Commodore sa PCG Auxiliary, ang modernization plan ay dapat tumutukoy sa kinakailangang hakbang at resources para mapalakas ang kakayahan ng Coast Guard partikular sa pagpapatrolya at pagtatanggol sa teritoryo ng Pilipinas lalo na sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
“Our national security and sovereignty are paramount. By ensuring that our Coast Guard is well-equipped and well-funded, we can better protect our territorial integrity against external threats and assert our sovereign rights in these contested waters,” pahayag ni Romualdez.
Sa gitna ng mainit na territorial dispute sa nabanggit na bahagi ng bansa, dapat aniyang maunawaan at suportahan ng Kongreso ang pagpapalakas sa operational capacities ng PCG.
Sinabi ng Leyte solon na ang hinihingi niyang plano ay dapat may detalyadong estado sa ngayon ng mga asset ng ahensya, gayundin ang projected upgrades ng vessels at equipments, ang pagsasagawa ng training programs para sa mga tauhan nito at mga kasunduang pinasok kasama ang iba pang maritime law enforcement sa rehiyon.
“The House of Representatives is committed to backing the Philippine Coast Guard in its vital role. It’s not just about responding to immediate threats but also about maintaining a presence that underscores our commitment to national and regional security,” aniya pa.
“This initiative is a part of the broader agenda of the Marcos administration to bolster national defense and regional stability, reflecting the legislative commitment to enhancing the Philippines’ defensive posture in the face of evolving maritime challenges,” pahabol ng House Speaker.
