KASABAY sa paggunita sa Araw ng Kagitingan, hinimok ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez ang sambayanan na magkaisa sa pagtatanggol ng soberanya laban sa nakaambang pananakop.
Bukod sa soberanya, higit na angkop din aniya labanan ang kahirapan upang mapabuti ang buhay ng mga mamamayan.
Giit ni Speaker Romualdez, ang inalay na sakripisyo ng mga bayaning walang takot na hinarap ang mabibigat na hamon, ay patunay lamang sa kakayahan at taglay na pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipino.
“Today, as we pay homage to their courage, we must also heed the invaluable lessons they impart. Defending Philippine sovereignty and territory is not merely a historical obligation; it is an ongoing responsibility that demands our unwavering commitment and vigilance,” pahayag ng lider ng Kamara.
Sa gitna aniya ng mabigat na banta ng geopolitical at agawan sa teritoryo, mahalagang manindigan ang lahat na protektahan ang legal na nasasakupan ng Pilipinas at igiit ang lehitimong saklaw batay sa international law.
“We must affirm our sovereignty over our land, seas and airspace, resolutely rejecting any encroachment or infringement upon our territorial integrity,” hirit pa ng Speaker.
Kasabay nito, pinaalalahanan din ng namumuno sa 300-plus-strong House of Representatives ang mga Pilipino na ang Araw ng Kagitingan ay hindi limitado sa tapang sa pagtatanggol ng soberanya, bagkus ay pagbibigay-pansin din sa paglaban kontra kahirapan at hindi pagkakapantay-pantay.
“Just as our heroes fought for our nation’s physical borders, we must also strive to break the chains of poverty and uplift the less fortunate among us,” aniya.
“Our commitment to freedom extends beyond territorial boundaries; it encompasses the liberation of our people from the shackles of poverty, hunger and deprivation. We must stand united in the fight against poverty, extending a helping hand to the less fortunate and empowering them to build better lives for themselves and their families,” dagdag pa niya.
Nananawagan rin ang House Speaker ng pagkakaisa bilang isang bansang lilikha ng kinabukasan kung saan ang bawat mamamayan ay mamumuhay na may dignidad, magandang oportunidad at malawak na pag-asa.
“Together, let us forge a future where the sacrifices of our heroes are honored not only through the defense of Philippine sovereignty but also through our dedication to uplifting the lives of the less privileged,” pagtatapos ng Leyte lawmaker.
