TULUYAN nang sinibak ng Kamara de Representante si Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. batay sa rekomendasyon ng House Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
Sa botong 256, inalis sa talaan ng mga mambabatas si Teves na pangunahing suspek sa mahabang talaan ng mga pamamaslang sa Negros Oriental.
Gayunpaman, piniling umiwas at hindi magpasok ng boto ng tatlong miyembro ng Makabayan bloc — sina Reps. Arlene Brosas of (Gabriela), France Castro (ACT Teachers), at Raoul Manuel (Kabataan).
“As the branch of government upon which the power to make laws has been reposed by the Constitution, members of the legislature should be held to account to a higher ethical standard especially when the acts complained of violate the very same laws Congress has arduously passed,” ayon kay COOP-NATCCO partylist Rep. Felimon Espares na tumatayong chairman ng Committee on Ethics sa binasang panel report bago sinimulan ang plenaryo.
“As stewards of the public trust, the members of the House of Representatives are imbued with a sacred responsibility to embody the highest standards of ethical conduct,” ani Espares.
Kabilang sa mga dahilan sa pagsibak kay Teves ay ang pagiging pabaya sa trabahong kalakip ng mandato bilang kinatawan ng Negros Oriental matapos piliin manatili sa ibang bansa para makaiwas sa napipintong pagdakip ng otoridad kaugnay ng mga kinakaharap na kasong kriminal sa husgado.
Hindi pa rin bumabalik sa bansa si Teves na lumipad sa Estados Unidos noong Pebrero 28 para di umano sa pagpapatuloy ng kanyang stem cell treatment.
Hindi rin ikinalugod ng mga kapwa kongresista ang di umano’y mahalay video ng kongresistang nagpamalas ng husay sa ‘paggiling’ habang nakasuot lamang ng underwear.
“After a thorough deliberation and following numerous meetings, while observing fairness and due process, the Committee on Ethics and Privileges unanimously recommends that the penalty of expulsion from the House of Representatives be imposed on Representative Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ A. Teves Jr. for disorderly behavior and for violation of the Code of Conduct of the House of Representatives,” ani Espares sa plenaryo.
Bago pa man sinibak bilang kongresista, dalawang ulit na pinatawan ng 60-day suspension si Teves na ipinasok ng Anti-Terrorism Council sa hanay ng mga terorista.
Wala pang pahayag ang kampo ni Teves.
