DOBLE-DAGOK ang inaabot ng Filipino consumers sa tuwing may pagtaas sa presyo ng mga produktong petrolyo, na ang una nga ay pagsipa sa pump price at ang pangalawa ay ang paglobo rin ng ipinapataw na Value-Added Tax (VAT).
Ito ang tahasang sinabi ni Tingog partylist Rep. Jude Acidre kasabay ng panawagan para sa pagpapatupad ng limitasyon o cap sa ipinapataw na VAT sa petroleum products.
“The more expensive fuel becomes, the more taxes our people are forced to pay. This compounds the burden at a time when many are already struggling with the rising cost of living,” pahayag ni Acidre na siya ring tumatayong chairman ng House Committee on Higher and Technical Education.
“We call for the immediate imposition of a cap on the Value-Added Tax collected per liter of fuel. There must be a clear and reasonable limit to ensure that taxation does not further penalize consumers during periods of high fuel prices,” dagdag niya.
Ani Acidre, nararapat lamang na sa tuwing may global oil price surge, gumawa ng hakbang ang pamahalaan para maibsan ang epekto sa mga mamamayan.
Giit ng partylist solon, sa halip na hayaan na tumaas ang koleksyon ng buwis mula sa pagsipa ng oil price, na hindi naman umano agad nababantayan kung tama, ay mainam na limitahan ang VAT sa fuel products kung saan direktang makikinabang ang transport workers, farmers, fisherfolk, at mga ordinaryong pamilyang Pilipino.
“Taxation must always serve the people. In times of crisis, it must be responsive, compassionate, and grounded in fairness. A cap on fuel VAT is a necessary step toward protecting our people from the compounded effects of rising fuel costs.”
