NAUNSYAMING pangarap na maging House Speaker ang nakikitang dahilan ng isang dating congressman sa likod ng umano’y panggugulo sa Kamara ni Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco.
Sa isang kalatas, partikular na tinukoy ni three-term Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers ang panawagan ni Tiangco para sa isang “total overhaul” sa mababang kapulungan.
Mungkahi ni Barbers sa mga kongresista, dedmahin na lang ang tinatwag niyang litanya ng mambabatas na kumakatawan sa lungsod ng Navotas.
“Rep. Tiangco’s statements are nothing more than the voice of frustration. Let us recall that he failed to secure either the Speakership or the powerful Appropriations chairmanship at the start of the 20th Congress,” wika ni Barbers.
“Neither he nor Rep. Albee Benitez was even nominated for Speaker. Not a single member of the House cast a vote in their favor. That reality speaks louder than today’s rhetoric,” patutsada ni Barbers kay Tiangco.
“The truth is clear: all party leaders remain firmly committed to the supermajority coalition under the leadership of Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez,” aniya pa.
Kung pagbabatayan aniya ang aktuwal na bilang ng mga patuloy na sumusuporta kay Romualdez bilang lider ng Kamara, wala umanong naniniwala sa mga aniya’y nagtatangkang idamay ang lider ng Kamara sa eskandalo kaugnay ng mga ghost flood control projects sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa.
“The trust and confidence of House Members in the leadership of Speaker Romualdez remain unshaken. Allegations raised against him and other lawmakers regarding flood control projects are baseless, without evidence, and sourced from polluted origins,” ani Barbers na nanungkulan sa Kamara bilang lead chairman ng House Quad Comm sa nakaraang 19th Congress.
Sa kabila ng mga ingay, sinabi ni Barbers, na nakatutok pa rin sa trabaho ang Kamara — at hindi kailanman mag paapekto sa mga intrigang pampulitika.
“The House of Representatives stands solid and united. We will not be distracted by intrigues or political sour grapes. Our mission is clear: to continue delivering meaningful legislation and oversight that will benefit every Filipino family.”
“Hindi po overhaul ang kailangan ng Kongreso. Ang kailangan ay tuloy-tuloy na trabaho at mas maraming batas na pakikinabangan ng taumbayan,” pagtatapos ni Barbers. (ROMEO ALLAN BUTUYAN II)
