MARIING kinondena ni House Deputy Minority Leader at ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro ang tila sabwatan umano sa pagitan ng mga power generation firm partikular para numipis ang suplay ng kuryente, magkaroon ng rotational brownout, na magreresulta rin sa power rate hike.
Giit ni Castro, nauulit sa ngayon ang naging senaryo noong 2023 kung saan idineklara ang power crisis mula sa kahina-hinalang magkakasabay na pagpalya ng nasa 50 power plants dahilan para sumirit din ang singil sa kuryente.
“The ongoing red and yellow power alerts in the country should not be taken lightly. The Department of Energy (DOE), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and generation companies must be held accountable, and a thorough investigation should be conducted to shed light on this matter,” wika ng House deputy minority leader.
Isinusulong naman ni Rep. Castro ang isang panukala kung saan ang pagkakaroon ng taas sa singil sa kuryente dahil sa hindi paggana ng mga planta ay sasagutin ng generation companies at hindi sa mga konsyumer.
“There’s an urgency of enacting measures that prioritize consumer protection and prevent the exploitation of power shortages for profit,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
“It is essential that generation companies bear the cost of disruptions and not pass it on to consumers. Legislation must be passed to ensure that generation companies are held responsible for their actions,” dugtong niya.
Dahil sa napipintong energy crisis dahil sa “unstable power supply,” hinimok ni Castro ang pamahalaan na bigyang prayoridad ang kapakanan ng mga mamamayan at magpatupad din ng polisiya para protektahan ang mga Pilipino kontra abusadong power producers.
“We call on the government to address the root causes of the energy crisis and protect the rights of consumers. The interests of the people should always come first,” apela pa ng ACT Teachers Partylist solon.
