DUWAG si Atty. Harry Roque, ayon sa isang prominenteng kongresista kaugnay ng hirit ng dating presidential spokesperson na asylum sa pagnanais takasan ang mga kasong kriminal sa Pilipinas.
Partikular na tinukoy ni Tingog partylist Rep, Jude Acidre ang pananagutan ni Roque sa illegal offshore gaming operations at human trafficking.
“Roque’s asylum bid is nothing more than a cowardly maneuver to escape the consequences of his actions. He has been cited in contempt and ordered detained for his refusal to cooperate in our investigation into POGO-related criminal activities. Now, he wants to flee the country to avoid answering for his alleged role in a human trafficking scheme. If he has nothing to hide, why is he running?” wika ni Acidre na timatayong chairman ng House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs.
Limang buwan na ang nakalipas mula nang pormal na maghain ng kasong human trafficking ang Department of Justice (DOJ) laban sa dating Palace official
Alegasyon ng DOJ, ginamit umano ni Roque ang posisyon at impluwensya ng Palasyo para protektahan ang mga sindikato sa likod ng offshore gambling companies na sangkot sa mga krimen gaya ng human trafficking, cyber fraud, at money laundering.
Para kay Acidre, pinatunayan lang ni Roque na totoo ang alegasyon sa ginawang pag-iwas bumalik sa bansa sa bisa ng asylum.
“This is not just about contempt in Congress anymore. Roque is now facing serious criminal charges that involve human trafficking—one of the gravest crimes under Philippine and international law,” dagdag ni Acidre.
“His decision to seek refuge abroad is an obvious attempt to shield himself from prosecution and avoid being held accountable for his actions,” dagdag ng partylist solon.
Samantala, hinimok ni Acidre ang mga ahensya ng pamahalaan na makipag-ugnayan sa international community para pigilan si Roque sa paggamit ng asylum bilang panangga laban sa prosekusyon.
“The law must take its course. We cannot allow individuals to exploit international legal mechanisms just to escape criminal liability. Roque may attempt to run, but the long arm of the law will eventually catch up with him. We will ensure that he faces justice—whether here or abroad.” (ROMEO ALLAN BUTUYAN II)
