KARAPATAN ni Vice President Sara Duterte ihayag ang planong pagtakbo bilang Pangulo sa 2028 presidential elections, pero hindi pwedeng hindi tumugon ang mga kongresista sa mga impeachment complaints na inihain sa Kamara.
Para kay House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Rep. Lorenz Defensor, hindi maiiwasan ang galawan sa pulitika matapos pagdedeklara ni Duterte sa pagsabak sa 2028 presidential race.
Gayunpaman, binigyan-diin ni Defensor na walang magiging epekto ang pagdedeklara ni Sara sa pagtugon ng Kamara sa apat na impeachment complaints na isinampa laban sa bise-presidente.
“It’s a strategic decision to strengthen her following. Lalo na may mga impeachment complaints na nakahain laban sa kanya. Mabuti din sa kanya para malaman niya kung sino talaga ang mga kakampi niya, kung sino ang hindi niya mga kakampi,” tugon ni Defensor sa isang ambush interview.
“I hope that we will be as independent as possible. Mas mabuti na ‘yung malaman ng mga tao. We are doing our constitutional duty in processing the impeachment complaints,” dagdag pa ng ranking House official.
Ayon kay Defensor, inaasahan na i-endorso sa House Committee on Justice ang mga isinampang reklamo laban kay Duterte para sa karampatang proseso – ang pagtimbang sa porma at sustansya ng reklamo.
“It will not affect how the process will go on in terms of hearing it, in terms of deliberations in the committee on justice,” garantiya ng Iloilo solon.
Isinantabi naman ni Defensor ang agam-agam sa umano’y “pressure” sa mga mambabatas.
“No, hindi naman pinipigilan. I don’t see any reason to say na may pumipigil o may nag-influence,” aniya.
“And we also have to take into consideration na malapit na ang 2028. But I can assure you that as far as the Committee on Justice is concerned that chairman and its members will be objective in hearing and deliberating the impeachment complaints based on the Constitution,” sambit pa ng kongresista.
“As of now, as of today, I cannot see getting one-third of endorsements from the members of the House of Representatives. But I can tell you right now that aabot ito sa Committee on Justice.” (ROMER R. BUTUYAN)
