TALIWAS sa istilong tokhang ng nagdaang administrasyon, mas epektibo ang kampanya ng administrasyon Marcos laban sa malawakang kalakalan ng ilegal na droga ng gobyerno.
Para kay Antipolo City 2nd Dist. Rep. Romeo Acop, hindi malayong magtagumpay ang giyera kontra droga sa ilalim ng termino ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. dahil sa aniya’y isinusulong na ‘bloodless campaign’ kung saan mas tinututukan ang pagtugis sa high-profile drug traffickers at hindi lamang ang mga tinatawag na street-level drug pusher.
Ayon kay Acop, isang retired police general at kasalukuyang chairman ng House Committee on Transportation, kapuri-puri ang ulat ng Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) na sa pagpasok ng kasalukuyang administrasyon, bumagsak ng 52% ang bilang ng mga nasawi na may kaugnayan sa kampanya laban sa ilegal na droga.
“The 52 percent significant drop in the number of fatalities, as reported by PDEA is really a welcome development. For several years, we have been the subject of human rights abuses in this part of the world,” sabi pa ng Antipolo City lawmaker.
Base sa datos ng PDEA, mula sa bilang na 40 drug-related deaths sa pagitan ng taong 2020 at 2021, bumaba sa 19 (katumbas ng 52% decrease) na sumasalamin sa datos na nakalap mula Hulyo 2022 hanggang Setyembre ng kasalukuyang taon.
Bunsod nito, nais ni Acop na bumalangkas ng panukalang batas na naglalayong palakasin ang kapasidad ng iba’t-ibang law enforcement agencies, kabilang ang Philippine National Police (PNP) sa pagsasagawa ng ‘bloodless’ anti-illegal drug operations.
“We need to craft legislation that would further improve the Philippine National Police’s as well as their other counterparts’ abilities to address effectively – with zero casualty in mind – in going after the drug lords, with the hope of reducing, if not totally eradicating, this menace,” dagdag pa ni Acop.
Nauna rito, inatasan ni Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez ang House panel head na tulungan ang House Committee on Dangerous Drugs, na pinamumunuan ni Surigao del Norte 2nd District Robert Ace Barbers; at House Committee on Public Order and Safety, na pinamumunuan naman ni Sta. Rosa City Lone District (Laguna) Rep. Dan Fernandez sa mga pagdinig na may kinalaman sa kampanya ng gobyerno laban sa ipinagbabawal na gamot.
Mayorya sa mga miyembro ng Kamara ang nagpahayag ng pagsuporta sa “bloodless anti-drug campaign” ng Marcos administration, na nagresulta na rin sa pagkakasabat ng nasa P30 bilyon halaga ng ilegal na droga.
“This amount can most definitely finance the elections and victory of drug lords in our political arena,” ang reaksyon naman ni Barbers hinggil dito.
“It’s a bloodless war. It shows that we can slay the dragon that is the drug menace without lives’ being lost. Violence, if it can be avoided by our law enforcers in the pursuit of suspects, can result to less anger, resentment, desire for vengeance from our people and will likewise negate attention and condemnation from international watchdog groups,” dagdag pa pinuno ng House Committee on Dangerous Drugs.
