TARGET ni Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla itaas ang mandatory retirement age ng mga pulis sa edad na 60-anyos. “If I have my choice, I would extend it to 60 years old,” wika ni Remulla sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Appropriations kaugnay na panukalang budget para sa Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Paliwanag ng Kalihim, tumaas na ang life expectancy ng mga Pilipino mula nang maging batas ang Republic Act 6975 na lumikha ng Philippine National Police (PNP), kapalit ng Philippine Constabulary – Integrated National Police (PC-INP). “When the law was enacted in 1992, the PNP law, the average life expectancy of Filipinos then was 64 years old and that is 34 years ago. Today sir the life expectancy for Filipinos is 70.5 years old, this increase already, health is better, we’re more productive,” ani Remulla. Gayunpaman, ipinabatid ni Manila Rep. Paglilinaw naman ni Remulla, bagama’t suportado niya ang panukalang itaas sa 57-anyos ang retirement age sa PNP, nanindigan ang DILG chief na kaya pang magsilbi sa bayan ang mga pulis hanggang sa pagtungtong sa ika-60 kaarawan. “Sir ang 57 (years old) still in their prime productivity as a policeman.
