SUPORTADO ng mga kongresistang miyembro ng tinaguriang “young guns” ng Kamara ang desisyon ni Senate President Francis Escudero na itigil ang paggawa ng new Senate building sa Taguig City, batay na rin sa rekomendasyon ng dating lider ng mataas na kapulungan.
Partikular na kinatigan nina House Assistant Majority Leaders Jay Khonghun (Zambales, 1st District), Paolo Ortega V (La Union, 1st District), Jil Bongalon (Ako Bicol Party-list) at 1-Rider Party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez ang rekomendasyon ni former Senate President Vicente Sotto.
Anila, dapat muna linawin ang ang dahilan kung bakit lumobo sa P23.3 bilyon ang gastos ng new Senate building gayong malinaw naman umanong P8.9 bilyon lamang ang nakalaang pondo para sa naturang proyekto.
Ani Khonghun, ang pag-endorso ni Sotto sa panawagang suspensyon ay isang pagpapatibay sa naging desisyon ni Escudero sa paniwalang may naganap na “milagro.”
“It is only right to re-evaluate such a major project, especially given the alarming increase in costs. Transparency and accountability must be our top priorities,” wika ng Zambales lawmaker.
Sa panig ni Ortega, sinabi niyang nakakagulat na malaman na umabot na sa P23.3 bilyon ang halaga ng proyekto, na halos triple ang itinaas mula sa orihinal na presyong P8.9 bilyon.
“We welcome former Senate President Sotto’s support for this review, as it reassures the public that their leaders are vigilant and committed to safeguarding public funds,” punto naman ni Ortega.
Ayon naman kay Bongalon, ang pagkilala ni Sotto na magsagawa ng pagsusuri at ang pagtukoy sa dating isyu ng proyektong kaladkad ang pangalan ng kumpanyang Hilmarc’s Construction Corp.
“It’s good news for the Filipino people that such concerns are being addressed promptly. This ensures that both the Senate and the public are kept informed and vigilant,” sabi pa ni Bongalon.
Binigyang-diin naman ni Gutierrez ang kahalagahan ng pagiging maingat at transparent sa paggamit ng pondo ng bayan, at mariing nanawagan para sa isang masusing pagsusuri ng proyekto.
“Sotto’s call for transparency and accountability deeply resonates with us,” saad ng mambabatas.
“We welcome former Senate President Sotto’s stand and fully support the initiative to scrutinize the new Senate building project. It must adhere to the principles of accountability and fiscal responsibility. We must ensure that every peso is spent wisely and in the best interest of the Filipino people,” hirit pa ni Gutierrez.
