HINIMOK ni House Deputy Majority Leader at ACT-CIS partylist Rep. Erwin Tulfo ang kanyang mga kapwa mambabatas na susugan ang resolusyong nahahayag ng suporta sa alok ng Estados Unidos na samahan sa paglalayag ang resupply vessels ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Sa isang talumpati, binigyan-diin ni Tulfo na ang pagbibigay ng tulong ng puwersang Kano na samahan ang supply ships ng bansa sa paghahatid ng mga pangangailangan at iba pang kagamitan ng mga sundalong nakatalaga sa naturang karagatan ay makakatulong para ipaglaban ng Pilipinas ang karapatan sa maritime region na pasok sa 200-nautical mile Philippine exclusive economic zone.
“Why should we support this, you may ask? First, it is time to demonstrate that our alliances are not just words written on paper but are indeed actionable commitments to defend our sovereignty and uphold international law,” giit ng ranking House official.
“Second, it sends a strong message to the international community that the Philippines is resolute in defending its sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea,” dugtong niya.
Ayon kay Tulfo, hindi nag-iisa ang Pilipinas sa paninindigan sa soberanya at pagprotekta sa teritoryo nito, kaya kinakailangan ang suporta ng international allies ng bansa.
“We are not alone in this fight; the support from our allies demonstrates a unified stance against any form of aggression that seeks to disrupt peace and stability in the region,” sabi pa ng ACT-CIS solon.
Naniniwala rin si Tulfo na kapag mayroong escort ng US vessels ang resupply mission ng bansa ay makakasiguro na ang anumang marahas na hakbang ng gagawin ng China ay matatapatan ng kaukulang hakbang.
“This not only safeguards our supply missions but also serves as a deterrent against further provocations in our maritime domain,” giit ni Tulfo.
Nauna rito, inihayag ni US Indo-Pacific Command, Admiral Samuel Paparo Jr., na maaaring eskortan ng American ships Filipino vessels na nasa resupply missions sa WPS.
Sinegundahan naman ito ni Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder na tumatayong Pentagon press secretary, na binigyan-diin ang hindi natitinag na pangako ng Amerika na pagsuporta sa supply runs para sa mga sundalong Pilipino na nakatalaga sa Philippine-occupied features sa rehiyon.
“Mr. Speaker, dear colleagues, the West Philippine Sea has been a focal point of geopolitical tension, particularly with the continued aggressive maneuvers and unlawful maritime operations by the People’s Republic of China (PRC),” ang saad pa ni Tulfo.
“In light of these recent developments, I call on this esteemed body to consider a resolution of support for the US offer to escort our resupply missions.”
