PINAYUHAN ng kampo ni former Speaker Martin Romualdez ang mga tinaguriang “celebrities” na bahagi ng Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN) na sa korte — at hindi sa social media — na lamang idepensa ang kinakaharap na extortion charges.
Sa panayam kay Atty. Elaine A. Atienza, spokesperson ni Romualdez matapos ang isinagawang arraignment ng Pasig City RTC Branch 152 sa kasong robbery extortion case laban kay PGMN founder Franco Mabanta, sinabi ng lady lawyer na hindi maglalahad sa publiko ang kanilang kampo ng mga detalye sa kaugnay sa naturang usapin bilang respeto sa proseso ng hudikatura.
“Sa ngayon we cannot speak of the details of the case, along with the other evidence, kasi it’s already subject of ongoing proceedings,” pahayag ni Atienza.
“But what we can say right now is that we are confident in the strength of our case and our evidence, and the court is the proper forum where we can test this evidence,” dugtong ng abogado.
Nang tanungin kung ano ang reaksyon ni Romualdez sa pag-atake sa reklamong inihain laban kay Mabanta, tigas na sinabi ni Atienza na hindi sila makikipag-debate tungkol sa kinakaharap na kaso ng PGMN founder gamit ang social media.
“Ipinapaubaya po natin sa korte ang paglilitis at pagtingin sa mga ebidensyang ipipresenta ng mga parties,” ani Atienza.
Isinantabi naman ng ni Atienza ang giit ng kampo ng akusado na isang pag-atake sa press freedom ang paghahabla.
“This is not about press freedom. In fact, we encourage people—if they have anything against any person, they can report that to the authorities. But we should always follow the process,” saad pa niya.
Paalala ni Atienza, dapat iwasan ng sinumang may kaugnayan sa kasong dinidinig sa korte na magbigay ng anumang komento o talakayin ang merito nito hanggat wala pang hatol ang husgado.
“That goes for all, as lawyers and parties to the case, we are all enjoined and instructed not to talk about the merits of the case before the media and social media,” giit ng tagapagsalita ng former House speaker.
Dagdag niya, ang wastong lugar para malaman ang katotohanan at pananagutan ay sa panig ng hudikatura at hindi sa anumang online platforms.
“At the end of the day, this case will not be decided by hashtags, speculation, or social media theatrics. It will be decided by evidence, by law, and by the courts,” punto ni Atienza.
Samantala, kinumpirma ng abogado na hindi dumalo sa nasabing court arraignment si Romualdez.
“Si Speaker (Romualdez), hindi siya nakadalo ngayon dito sa hearing but he’s duly represented by counsel. If magkaroon, or if ma-require ‘yung kanyang presence or participation in the case, whether by the court or under the rules, he will comply.”
