HINDI naging pabaya ang Meta (dating Facebook) sa obligasyong puksain ang pagpapakalat ng maling at mapanirang impormasyon sa social media, ayon kay Dr. Rafael Frankel na tumatayong director ng Public Policy for Southeast Asia.
Sa pagdinig ng House Tri-Committee, tiniyak na Frankel na may ginagawang ang Meta. Katunayan aniya, nasampolan na ang blogger na si Mark Lopez, na kilalang masugid na supporter ng kampo ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
“So here is one example of a fact check on our platform. This is a fact check of a claim that a vlogger made that the Philippines had used water cannons against the Coast Guard. This was rated false by our fact checker,” wika ni Frankel.
“As you can see on the left side, this is the fact check, and on the right side, this is how the content that would not appear on our platform with the screen over it and a warning along with the label that explains that this is a false content,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang pinatutungkulan ni Frankel ay ang kanyang presentasyon kung saan nakasulat sa kaliwa na: “Blogger Mark Lopez claims the Philippines uses water cannon against China in the West Philippine Sea.”
Sa kanan naman nakasulat ay: “OUR VERDICT False: Despite repeated instances of China water bombing and ramming Philippine vessels, the Philippine government refuses to retaliate by using water cannons against China Coast Guard’s aggressive actions.”
Isa si Lopez sa mga pro-Duterte bloggers na inimbitahan ng Tri-Com na dumalo sa pagdinig nito.
Sa nakaraang pagdinig, napilitang humingi ng paumanhin si Lopez nang ituon ang isyu ng kanyang mga social media posts hinggil sa South China Sea.
“Sorry po, fake news po ako,” aniya.
Ayon sa post, isinagawa ang fact checking ng VERA Files noong Marso 26, 2025.
“This would also be the content that is reduced in distribution and so even getting into that content would be much less likely on the part of any user using our platforms,” giit ni Frankel.
Bukod sa VERA Files, sinabi ni Frankel na ang Rappler at ang global news agency na Agence France-Presse ang mga lokal na third-party fact checkers ng Meta. (ROMEO ALLAN BUTUYAN II)
