SA halip na magpakawala ng mga walang katuturang paratang, hinamon ng mga lider ng tinaguriang supermajority coalition sa Kamara si ex-President Rodrigo Duterte na magsampa ng lamang ng pormal na kaso laban sa Kongreso.
Nagkakaisang naghayag ang mga ranking officials ng iba’t-ibang partido politikal sa Lower House para idepensa ang institusyong kanilang kinabibilangan mula sa mga mapanirang pahayag ng former Chief Executive partikular patungkol sa pagkakaroon umano ng pork barrel fund ng mga kongresista.
“It is critical to remember that the pork barrel system, which former President Duterte alluded to, has been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Our members are firmly committed to respecting and upholding this ruling,” pahayag pa ng House supermajority coalition leaders.
“Rather than making sweeping allegations in the media, we advise the former president, if he has tangible evidence of wrongdoing, to present it to the appropriate authorities,” wika naman ni House Secretary-General Reginald Velasco.
Ang banat ni Duterte ay itinuturing na ganti at pagdepensa para sa anak na si Vice President Sara Duterte matapos mabunyag ang pagkaubos ng P125 milyon confidential fund sa loob lamang ng 11 araw noong 2022.
Tila galit din ang ex-president sa pasya ng mga ranking House official na sa ilalim ng 2024 national budget ay alisin ang hinihinging P500 milyon para sa Office of the Vice President (OVP) — bukod sa P150 milyong hirit ng batang Duterye para sa Department of Education (DepEd).
Paliwanag ng House leadership, ang desisyon na ilipat ang confidential fund ng mga civilian agency, kabilang ang OVP at DepED, ay para mapalakas ang kakayanan at pagganap ng mandato ng mga ahensiyang nagbibigay ng proteksyon sa West Philippine Sea.
“It is essential to understand that this decision was made for the benefit of the nation and not as a personal affront to any individual, including Vice-President Duterte,” sabi pa ng mga ito.
Ang super coalition ng Kamara ay binubuo ng Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Nacionalista Party, National Unity Party, PDP-Laban, Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc., at iba pa.
