KASUNOD ng kabi-kabilang batikos hinggil sa hubaran sa hanay ng mga babaeng dalaw ng mga bilanggo, naglabas ng direktiba si Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) chief Gregorio Catapang – suspendido ang tinawag niyang “strip and cavity search” sa lahat ng piitan ng kawanihan.
Sa isang memorandum, partikular na inatasan ni Catapang ang mga jail superintendents na nangangasiwa sa mga na itigil muna ang “strip and cavity search” para bigyang-daan ang imbestigasyon – “stop the conduct of such searches until further notice.”
Ayon kay Catapang, nagsasagawa rin ng pagrerebisa sa kontrobersyal na polisiya ang kawanihan.
“The investigation is ongoing to determine whether they have done the search in accordance with the procedures… BuCor’s protocols are dynamic and have been made in line with the current trends of correctional management responsive to the emerging needs of the institution,” wika ni Capatang sa isang pahayag.
Bukod sa imbestigasyon ng BuCor, lumikha rin ng joint probe ang Department of Justice at Commission on Human Rights (CHR) sa reklamong inihain ng mga babaeng daw ng mga political prisoners sa New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) facility sa Muntinlupa City.
“If this will further improve our services to our stakeholders and the public, any technical assistance that the CHR may extend to us will be very welcome,” dugtong ng BuCor chief.
Samantala, nanindigan si Catapang sa mahigpit na polisiya ng kawanihan. Aniya, iniiwasan lang ng BuCor mapalusutan ng ilegal na kontrabando.
“Should a visitor refuse to undergo the search procedure, such visitor may opt to avail of our electronic visits or the “e-dalaw”. Visitors are not compelled to sign the waiver. Minors are not subjected to strip searches,” aniya.
