ALINSUNOD sa direktiba ni Pangulong ferdinand Marcos Jr., masusing pinag-aaralan ng Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) ang posibilidad na atasan ang mga kumpanya at kooperatiba para sa pagpapaliban ng paniningil sa buwanang konsumo ng kuryente sa mga lugar na apektado ng bagyong Kristine.
“We’re thoroughly studying the proposal to implement a moratorium on electricity line disconnections and payment collections in areas under a state of calamity due to STS Kristine,” ani ERC officer-in-charge chairperson at CEO Jesse Hermogenes Andres.
Araw ng Martes nang atasan ni Marcos ang ERC na pag-aralan ang implementasyon ng moratorium sa paniningil at pamumutol ng linya ng kuryente sa mga lalawigan, lungsod at munisipalidad na isinailalim sa state of calamity.
Target ng ERC — Enero na simulan maningil.
Gayunpaman, nilinaw ng ERC na kailangan pa rin bayaran ng mga konsyumer ang konsumo sa bisa ng tinaguriang “staggered payment” kung saan unti-unting huhulugan ng mga konsyumer ang mga naiwang bayarin.
“ERC is currently developing measures that would allow for staggered payment options for electricity bills to help alleviate the financial burden on our kababayans as they recover from the impact of the STS Kristine.”
Bukod sa mga energy companies, pasok din sa itinutulak na moratorium ang mgha distribution utility (DU) companies tulad ng Meralco.
“In consideration of the coming holiday season, DUs should observe a moratorium on the disconnection of electricity service of distressed consumers,” aniya.
“In the meantime, the ERC calls on the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), privately-owned DUs and electric cooperatives (ECs) in areas affected by STS Kristine to assess the damage and fast track the restoration of electricity in typhoon-hit areas,” pahabol ni Andres.
