PINANGUNAHAN nina House Speaker Martin Romualdez at maybahay niyang si TINGOG partylist Rep. Yedda K. Romualdez ang paggagawad ng Congressional Medal of Excellence kay Paris Olympics gymnastics competition double gold winner Carlos Yulo at Congressional Medal of Distinction naman kina boxing events bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio at Aira Villegas.
Sa talumpating binigkas ni Romualdez sa ginanap na Congressional Reception para sa Philippine Olympic Delegation sa 2024 Paris Olympics, binigyang pagkilala ni Romualdez mga atletang Pinoy na sumabak sa pandaigdigang paligsahan sa larangan ng palakasan.
Para kay Romualdez, isang kabayanihan ang ipinamalas ng mga Filipino athletes na minsan pang nagbigay-patunay sa husay ng Pilipinas.
“Kami po dito sa House of the Representatives, House of the People are honored by your victories and by your achievements. We want to thank every one of you. Of course, the coaches and the family that all supported you, for you have made these all possible,” pahayag ni Romualdez.
Hindi rin pinalampas ng lider ng Kamara ibida ang bronze medalist na si Villegas. Katulad ni Romualdez, tubong-Leyte rin ang pambato ng Pilipinas sa larangan ng women’s boxing.
“We want to take this brief but most memorable opportunity to recognize your achievements in the sports community. You are now what they call the shining beacon. Kayo po ang naging ehemplo sa taumbayan. Sa lahat ng kakayahan ng Pilipinas, ito po ang resulta na kapag nagsama-sama talaga tayo, we can achieve everything. Iyun po ang mensahe ng ating mahal na Presidente kagabi, kaya po kami dito sa Kongreso, we join him in celebrating your victory, recognizing your sacrifices, and recognizing your hard work,” aniya pa.
Sa impormasyong nakalap sa kamara, lumalabas na ang Congressional Medal of Excellence ang siyang pinakamataas na pagkilalang iginagawad ng Kongreso sa mga natatanging Pilipino sa larangan ng sports, business, medicine, science at arts and culture.
Bukod sa mga kina Yulo, Petecio at Villegas, inaprubahan din ng Kamara ang House Resolution No. 241, na nagbibigay din ng pgkilala sa lahat ng Filipino athletes at buong Philippine delegation sa Paris, France.
Bahagi sa ibinigay na ‘heroes welcome’ ng House leadership ang pagkakaloob cash incentives sa mga atleta kung saan si Yulo ay nakatanggap ng P6 million para sa dalawang gintong medalyang nasungkit at karagdagang P8.010 million mula naman sa kontribusyon ng mga kongresista sa pangunguna ng lider ng Kamara, maybahay miyang si Rep. Yedda Romualdez, Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., Majority Leader Manuel Jose Mannix “M. Dalipe at House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Zaldy Co.
Nauna rito ay nakatanggap si Yulo ng P500,000 bago pa man lumipad papuntang Paris, France.
Hinandugan din ng tig isang milyon sina Petecio at Villegas para sa nasungkit ng bronze medal at dagdag na tig-P2.5 million din mula sa kontribusyon ng mga kongresista.
Ang 19 na iba pang Pinoy athletes ay binigyan ng Kamara ng tig-P500,000 bukod sa naunang tig-P500,000 na kanilang natanggap bago sumabak sa Paris Olympics.
“Your achievements are a testament to what we can accomplish when we dream big, work hard, and never give up. These medals, made from the purest of metals, represent the purity of your dedication, the strength of your resolve, and the weight of the expectations you carried on behalf of more than 110 million Filipinos,” pagbibgay-diin pa ng Leyte lawmaker.
“As we confer these Congressional Medals and recognition upon you today, know that this honor is not just for your extraordinary feats in Paris, but for the inspiration you have given to every Filipino—young and old. You have shown us that with determination and unity, there is no limit to what we can achieve,” saad din ng House Speaker.
“Your hard work, dedication, and commitment have brought honor to our nation. Qualifying for the Olympics is already an extraordinary achievement, and you have shown the world the strength and resilience of the Filipino spirit,” pagtatapos ni Romualdez.
