PARA sa mga miyembro ng Kamara, higit na angkop magkaroon ng patas na proseso sa isinasagawang imbestigasyon ng Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) sa flood-control scandal.
Partikular na tinukoy ng mga kongresista ang panawagan ng Makati Business Club hinggil sa maanomalyang proyekto sa imprastraktura ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Ayon kay House Deputy Speaker at La Union 1st Dist. Rep. Paolo Ortega V, ang opisyal na pahayag ng MBC, na binasa ni Ginoong Apa Ongpin na tumatayong MBC executive director ay kahalintulad sa prinsipyong isinusulong ni former Speaker at Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez na nanindigan sa pagkakaroon ng transparency at accountability sa pamamahala.
Dagdag pa ng La Union lawmaker, kaisa ng MBC ang malaking panig ng Kamara sa kahilingan nito manaig ang pagkakapantay-pantay sa pagtataguyod ng hustisya at ang ginagawa ng ICI ay hindi dapat mabahiran ng anumang kulay-pulitka.
Ayon kay Ortega, sa usapin ng flood control project anomalies, ipinakita ni Romualdez ang prinsipyo sa pagpapanatili ng integridad matapos na boluntaryong magbitiw bilang pinuno ng Kamara at pagtugon sa imbitasyon ng ICI para masalang sa pagsisiyasata.
“We’ve seen the former Speaker face these issues squarely. He has cooperated with investigators and remains committed to the truth. That’s the kind of leadership the public deserves to see,” paggigiit ng House Deputy Speaker.
“Let’s allow the truth to come out through proper process, that’s how we uphold the rule of law and protect the integrity of our institutions.”
Sa panig ni House Infrastructure Committee Overall Chairperson at Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon, inilarawan niya ang pahayag ni Ongpin bilang isang “balanced and principled view” sa gitna ng pag-iral ng magkakaibang paniniwala.
“Mr. Ongpin’s statement is a timely reminder that the rule of law—not rumor—must prevail. We welcome his call for due process because it ensures that investigations are based on facts, not politics,” dugtong ng House panel chair.
Paalala ni Ridon, sinuman mula sa hanay ng executive branch, lehislatura o maging private sector ay hindi ligtas sa pagbusisi o imbestigasyon lalo’t ang usapin ay patungkol sa paggamit sa pera ng taumbayan.
“All institutions and personalities must be given both the right to be heard and the duty to cooperate with lawful investigations,” dagdag ni Ridon.
“Let the institutions work independently and let the truth come out through evidence. That’s how justice is served—and how trust in government is rebuilt,” pagtatapos ng mambabatas. (ROMER R. BUTUYAN)
