TALIWAS sa nakasaad sa 1987 Constitution ang usad-pagong na tugon ng Senado sa Articles of Impeachment na inihain ng Kamara, ayon kay Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong na tumatayong tagapagsalita ng House prescution panel.
Apela ni Alonto Adiong sa senate impeachment court, simulan “forthwith” ang impeachment trial laban kay VIce President Sara Duterte.
Paglilinaw ng kongresista, nirerespeto ng lupon ng tagausig ang paraan sa paghahanda ng senado. Gayunpaman, masyado aniyang matagal ang Hunyo 7 — ang petsang itinakda ng senado .
“Sa pananaw namin, medyo matagal po ang July 6. The Constitution is very clear that the impeachment trial shall proceed forthwith. Sana po ay bigyan ito ng agarang prayoridad,” apela ng House panel spokesman.
Ayon kay Alonto Adiong, kamakailan ay naglabas ang Supreme Court (SC) ng interpretasyon nito sa katagang “forthwith” na mismong nakasaad sa Konstitusyon na dapat maging tugon ng Senado noong tinanggap ang Articles of Impeachment mula sa Kamara.
“The Supreme Court had previously interpreted “forthwith” to mean action within a reasonable time, while also emphasizing the importance of avoiding unnecessary delay in impeachment proceedings,” dagdag pa ng mambabatas.
“The Senate has every right to prepare, but we also hope the process moves as promptly as possible in the interest of public accountability and public trust,” saad din niya.
Kung mayroong man aniyang dapat unahin ang Senado ngayon, ito ay ang pagganap ng isa sa pinakamahalagang constitutional duty.
“The Filipino people are closely watching this process. We trust that the Senate will act with fairness, independence and urgency consistent with its constitutional mandate.”
