INILIBAN ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang pagdalo sa 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) sa Dubai upang pangunahan ang mahahalagang kaganapan sa hostage situation sa 17 Pinoy seafarers.
“In light of important developments in the hostage situation involving 17 Filipino seafarers in the Red Sea, I have made the decision not to attend COP28 in Dubai tomorrow,” sabi ni Marcos sa kanyang official X (dating Twitter) account.
“Today, I will be convening a meeting to facilitate the dispatch of a high-level delegation to Tehran, Iran, with the aim of providing necessary assistance to our seafarers,” sabi pa ni Marcos.
Ipinagkatiwala ni Marcos kay Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga ang pamumuno sa COP28 delegation at katawanin ang Pangulo sa okasyon.
Nauna rito, tiniyak ng Pangulo na ginagawa lahat ng gobyerno ang makakaya para sa ligtas na paglaya ng mga na-hostage na seafarer sa Yemen.
Kinubkob ng Yemeni rebels ang cargo vessel na Galaxy Leader at ginawang hostage ang 25 crewmembers, kabilang ang 17 Pinoy, bilang ganti sa pambobomba ng Israel sa Gaza City, ayon sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Ang Bahamas-flagged, British-owned Galaxy Leader ay pag-aari umano ng Israeli businessman na si Abraham “Rami” Ungar ngunit ino-operate ng Japanese firm.
