Mga mahistrado, feeling untouchable – Remulla

HAYAGANG tinuligsa ni Ombudsman Crispin Remulla ang aniya’y kawalan ng aksyon sa santambak na reklamo laban sa mga mahistrado sa sangay ng hudikatura.

Ang dahilan — walang pumapatol dahil sa takot.

Sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Finance sa panukalang 2027 budget ng Office of the Ombudsman, partikular na tinukoy ni Remulla ang mga mahistrado sa Court of Appeals kung saan aniya kadalasan binabaliktad ang hatol sa mga tiwali sa gobyerno.

Sa naturang pagdinig, nagtanong si Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian kung ano ang dapat gawin sa mga barangay chairman na pabaya sa trabaho o sangkot sa korapsyon.

Sagot ni Remulla, ipatanggal sa pwesto – na ginagawa naman ng Office of the Ombudsman kung may sapat na batayan.

Pero pagdating aniya sa Court of Appeals, binabaliktad ang desisyon, na dahilan para makabalik sa pwesto.

Para kay Remulla, higit na angkop kastiguhin ng Korte Suprema ang mga mahistradong gumagawa ng tinawag niyang ‘milagro.’ 

“If there is one thing that was never touched with all the EDSA’s that happened in this country is the Judiciary,” wika ni Remulla.

“Never has the Judiciary accounted for everything they’ve been doing. It is something that we have to examine as a country because when businessmen come in to invest and create jobs and give progress to the country, when a case is thrown and a monkey wrenched is thrown into the business, there’s no certainty that the case will be finished in a certain amount of time,” paliwanag ng Ombudsman.

Samantala, nilinaw ni Remulla na hindi siya interesado mapabilang sa hudikatura, partikular sa Korte Suprema kung saan may dalawang pwesto ang mababakante sa pagreretiro ng dalawang mahistrado.

“I have no more aspirations. This is the job I want for myself and for the country to be able to finish this job. That’s why things that have been left unsaid are being said now because it has to happen.” 

Para kay Remulla, magpapatuloy ang ingay ng kanyang tanggapan sa mga isyu sa hudikatura para maayos ang problema sa bansa.

“It’s the biggest ‘elephant in the room’ for this country. The judiciary has to be examined closely by everybody in government and they themselves should go on a soul-searching so that we can be a better country.”
