YAMAN din lang usong-uso naman ang rigodon sa iba’t ibang tanggapan ng pamahalaan, nirekomenda ni Senadora Risa Hontiveros na isali ang Bureau of Immigration sa balasahan.
Ang dahilan – kapalpakan, kung hindi man kawalan ng alam sa aniya’y misteryo kung paano nakatakas sa bansa si dating Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo at mga iba pang personalidad sa likod ng illegal POGO noong Hulyo 2024.
Dapat rin aniyang palitan lahat ng opisyales na posibleng kakuntsaba sa paglabas-masok sa bansa ng mga wanted na foreign nationals.
Sa pagdinig ng Senado, inamin ni BI Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan na hindi pa rin nila alam kung paano nakatakas si Alice Guo at kapatid nitong sina Shiela at Wesley sa kasagsagan ng pagdinig ng Kongreso sa illegal POGO.
“To BI Commissioner (Joel) Viado, of the Bureau of Immigration, with all due respect, please consider this an ultimatum,” banta ni Hontiveros.
“If no satisfactory answers on these matters are provided by the BI within 15 days—as designated chair of the subcommittee of the Committee of Justice, I will call for a revamp of the BI in the committee report of this subcommittee. A revamp starting from the Commissioner himself,” dugtong ng senador.
Para kay Hontiveros, hindi katanggap-tanggap na ang isang high-profile na pugante ay nagawang makatakas sa bansa, habang naghihintay lang ng impormasyon mula sa immigration bureau ng ibang bansa.
“Even more concerning—the President himself declared that ‘heads will roll’ because of Guo’s escape. Yet BI’s response to this committee seems to me that there was no internal investigation done by the agency to ascertain who was responsible or if Guo was able to leave with the help of anyone from its ranks.”
“Because if we just stop at this status, we’re inutile as a country. It’s been four months, and we still don’t know how fugitives managed to slip past our borders undetected?” (ESTONG REYES)
