PANSAMANTALANG ipinatigil ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang importasyon mula Libya ang buhay na baka at kalabaw, gayundin ang produkto mula rito at tatlo pang mga bansa.
Ito ay upang maiwasang kumalat ang lumpy skin disease (LSD) sa lokal na populasyon ng baka at kalabaw, ayon sa DA.
Isang viral infection ang sa baka at kalabaw, ayon pa sa DA.
Nilagdaan ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. ang Memorandum Order No. 06 series of 2024 noong Pebrero 1 na nag-uutos sa temporary ban ng pag-aangkat na hayop mula Libya, Russia, South Korea Thailand.
“Safe commodities (skeletal muscle meat, gelatine and collagen, tallow, hooves and horns) are still allowed to be imported from the said country as long as the country is accredited to import following the import terms and conditions of the Philippines,” ayon sa kalatas ng DA.
Ang virus ay mapipigil lamang sa pagpatay ng hayup na may sakit o sa pagbabakuna.
