KUNG pagbabatayan ang sentimyentong sinasalamin ng mga survey, mayorya ng mga Pinoy ang nagnanais manaig ang katotohanan base sa ebidensya at pananagutan laban sa mga nagkasala sa bayan.
Sa resulta ng WR Numero Philippine Public Opinion Monitor survey, partikular na binabantayan ng mga mamamayan ang pag-usad ng impeachment complaint na inihain sa Kamara laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Sa isang kalatas, kinastigo ni Deputy Speaker at La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega ang aniya’y pag-iwas at ingay sa politika ng pangalawang pangulo.
Para kay Ortega, ang naturang survey ay mensahe para sa kampo ng bise presidente — na hindi tamang pigilan ang impeachment process na pinangangasiwaan ng House Justice Committee.
“This destroys the false narrative that the public wants Congress to shut its eyes and walk away. The people want this process taken seriously. They want the facts examined. They want the evidence weighed. At higit sa lahat, gusto nilang manaig ang pananagutan,” wika ni Ortega.
Sa tanong kung ano ang dapat maging basehan ng mga kongresista sa pagboto sa impeachment complaints laban sa pangalawang pangulo, 42 porsyento ng mga Pilipino ang nagsasabing dapat ikonsidera ang opinyon ng mga mamamayan, habang 29 percent naman ang nanindigan sa bentahe ng ebidensya.
“The survey contains an even more damaging finding for the Vice President’s defenders: 22 percent of Filipinos already believe the evidence against Duterte is strong and has basis, while only 25 percent say it is weak and baseless,” ayon pa House deputy speaker.
“That means nearly one in four Filipinos already believe there is real basis to hold Vice President Duterte to account. Hindi ito biro. Hindi ito maliit na numero. At lalong hindi ito patunay na kumbinsido ang publiko na inosente siya.”
Sinabi naman ni Ortega na ang pagkakaroon ng 53 percent na respondents ang nagpahayag ng pagtutol sa impeachment ay hindi nangangahulugan inaabsuwelto na si Duterte.
“Let us be very clear: being against impeachment is not the same as believing she is innocent. In fact, the same survey shows that 46 percent say they still do not have enough information about the evidence and grounds behind the complaint. Ibig sabihin, hindi pa sarado ang isip ng publiko. Naghihintay pa sila sa buong katotohanan,” aniya pa.
Kaya naman nanindigan ang La Union lawmaker na ito ang siyang nilalayon ng impeachment proceedings; ang lumabas ang katotohanan, sagutin ang mga alegasyon at hindi magtago o umiwas sa seryoso at maayos na proseso sa pamamagitan lamang ng teknikalidad.
“If the Vice President truly believes the allegations against her will collapse, then she should welcome the process instead of hiding behind technicalities, diversion, and propaganda. The answer to impeachment charges is evidence. The answer is not self-pity. The answer is not political victimhood.”
“The public is not asking for blind loyalty. The public is asking for judgment anchored on facts. Hindi kampihan. Hindi palakasan. Hindi palusot. Ebidensya.”
