TINIYAK ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri ang kanyang pagbibitiw bilang Senate President sa sandaling higit pa sa economic provision ng 1987 Constitution ang babaguhin ng Kongreso alinsunod sa iniutos ng Palasyo.
Ganito ang tugon ni Zubiri sa kabila-kabilang batikos ng minorya sa Senado kaugnay ng pagsang-ayon sa kautusan ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., na rebyuhin ang economic provisions ng umiiral na konstitusyon.
“What I said last night is exactly what came out. All the senators I had spoken to and met with only agree to economic amendments and that’s why the public need not fear our push for simple but meaningful amendments to the Charter,” ayon kay Zubiri.
“I will risk my leadership on that. No other motives whatsoever,” giit niya.
Naunang inihain ni Zubiri na nilagdaan ni Senate President Pro-tempore Loren Legarda ang Resolution of Both Houses No. 6, na nagsusulong amyendahan ang ilang economic provisions ng 1987 Constitution.
Kabilang dito ang reporma sa Public Services Act, education, at advertising industry sa pamamagitan ng pagdadagdag ng pariralang “unless otherwise provided by law.”
Nakatakda sa RBH 6 ni Zubiri, lahat ng miyembro ng Kongreso, ang pag amyenda sa 1987 Constitutions sa pamamagitan ng constitutional assembly (Con-Ass) saka iraratipika ng mamamayan sa pamamagitan ng plebisito.
Naunang kinuwestiyon nina Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III at Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros ang pangunguna ni Zubiri sa pagsusulong ng charter change matapos ang pulong nito sa Palasyo noong Enero 9 at 11.
