HINDI maaantala ang operasyon ng Senado sa gitna ng umano’y seryosong banta sa seguridad ng gusali, batay sa ‘intelligence report’ ma makalap ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Ito ang tiniyak ni Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin Gatchalian, kasabay ng giit na hindi balakid ang anumang banta sa mandato ng senado — pagbalangkas, amyenda at pagpapatibay ng mga panukalang batas, operasyong administratibo at paghahanda sa impeachment trial laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Paglilinaw ni Gatchalian, walang umiiral na lockdown sa senado. Gayunpaman, inamin ng acting Senate President na kasalukuyang nagpapatupad ng mas mataas na antas ng seguridad sa loob at paligid ng senate premises.
Kabilang sa mga ipinatupad na hakbang ang pagpapaalis sa lahat ng sasakyang nakaparada sa paligid sa gusali, gayundin ang mga nagsasagawa ng kilos-protesta.
“The Senate is taking the threat seriously and has directed the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms to coordinate with the National Bureau of Investigation and other intelligence agencies to validate the reports,” aniya.
Binigyang diin rin ng lider mambabatas ang kahalagahan tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng empleyado, miyembro ng media at mga senador habang patuloy ang imbestigasyon.
“We have to take it seriously because my top priority is the safety of the employees, members of the media, and the senators, so we have to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety and security,” dugtong ni Gatchalian.
Aniya, natukoy na rin umano ng NBI ang mga personalidad na kabilang sa pasimuno ng tinawag niyang destabilisasyon, ngunit hindi nagbanggit ng anumang pangalan.
“The NBI mentioned some personalities, but I will not disclose them yet because we’re still investigating and validating the information. We’re also cross-referencing it with other intelligence agencies,” aniya.
Kamakailan lang nang pahintulutan ni Gatchalian ang work-from-home set-up sa hanay ng mga kawani ng senado mula Hunyo 10 hanggang 11 bilang precautionary measure.
“Under the directive, heads of offices were instructed to ensure continuity of operations through appropriate remote work arrangements, while also being allowed to require on-site attendance of personnel when necessary for security, safety, maintenance, and other essential functions.”
Umapela din si Gatchalian sa kapwa senador na magtrabaho sa kanilang tahanan habang isinasagawa ang security assessment.
“The Senate operations remain uninterrupted despite the heightened security measures.”
