HINDI biro ang sakripisyo ng mga guro. Ito ang pahayag ng mga militanteng kongresista matapos maghain ng panukalang batas na nagsusulong ng P50,000 na entry-level salary para sa mga guro ng pampublikong paaralan.
Sa inihaing House Bill 9920 nina partylist Reps. France Castro ng ACT Teachers partylist, Arlene Brosas ng Gabriela at Raoul Manuel ng Kabataan partylist, dapat lamang anila mapagtanto ng pamahalaan na hindi na sapat ang umiiral na sahod kumpara sa nagtataasang presyo ng mga pangunahing bilihin sa merkado.
“This bill proposes substantial salary increases for public school teachers to close the gap between their salaries and the cost of living. It will also address the distortion created by the doubling of entry-level pay of military and uniformed personnel,” saad ng mga may-akda.
“It also proposes the annual adjustment of salaries to ensure that these keep pace with the cost of living,” dagdag pa nila.
Para kina Castro, Brosas at Manuel, bigo ang Salary Standardization Law (SSL) of 2019 na ilapit man “maski kaunti” lang ang sahod ng mga guro sa antas ng sweldo ng mga opisyales ng gobyerno.
“Despite the salary adjustment, the monthly pay of even mid-level personnel like public school teachers (Salary Grade 11) estimated to be about 803,272 individuals occupying Teacher 1 to Teacher 3 positions remains insufficient to meet the family living wage of P33,570 per month. This amount is the ideal for a family of five to have a decent and humane condition of living,” giit ng mga militanteng kongresista.
Sa pagtataya ng Makabayan bloc, nasa P4,000 lang ang ibinigay na umento sa mga guro sa nakalipas na apat na taon – malayo sa P7,000 kada taong dagdag-sahod sa mga opisyales ng pamahalaan.
