MATAPOS ismolin ang unang bugso ng tigil-pasadang kinasa ng mga operator at tsuper ng mga traditional jeeps, isang babala naman ang inilabas ng Department of Transportation — babawian ng prangkisa ang hindi papasada.
Bukod sa kanselasyon ng prangkisa, sasampahan din ng patong-patong na kasong administratibo ang mga operator at tsuper na lumahok sa welga, ayon kay Transportation Undersecretary Reiner Yebra.
“If you are a franchise holder, you have the obligation to give service to the public. If you fail to do it and instead go on strike, it’s as if you violated the conditions of your franchise, so that franchise can be revoked,” paliwanag ni Yebra.
Kabilang rin aniya sa sinisilip na kastigo ang paghahain ng kasong kriminal sa sandaling magdulot ng gulong hahantong sa sakitan at pagkasira ng mga ari-arian ang protestang idinaan sa welga.
“We want to emphasize that a franchise is not a right, it’s a mere privilege that the state can take back anytime if you do not comply with the terms. In other words, there are many mechanisms to protect our commuters both on the criminal and administrative aspects. We’re supported by the law on this,” dagdag pa niya.
Una nang sinabi ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) na hindi sasama sa welga ang mayorya ng malalaking transport group sa Metro Manila.
Kabilang sa tumabla sa panawagang tigil-pasada ang National Federation of Transport Cooperatives, ang Alliance of Transport Operators’ and Drivers’ Association of the Philippines, ang Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas, ang Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations, Pasang Masda Jeepney, ang Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers. Association of the Philippines, Stop and Go Coalition, ang Senate Employees Transport Service Cooperative, at ang UV Express National Alliance of the Philippines.
