MARIING kinondena ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez ang pagkakalat ng maling balita hinggil sa kalagayan ni Pope Francis, partikular ang umano’y pagpanaw ng punong alagad ng Simbahang Katoliko na nakabase sa Vatican City.
Para kay Romualdez, lubhang nakababahala ang aniya’y kapangahasan — “It’s a disturbing display of reckless misinformation.”
Apela ang lider ng Kamara sa publiko, maging mapanuri sa mga nababasa sa social media.
“This is a troubling reminder of how ruthless and irresponsible fake news has become. Spreading false information about the Holy Father not only causes unnecessary alarm but also undermines the truth at a time when facts matter more than ever,” pahayag ni Romualdez.
Dapat muna aniyang busisiing mabuti ang bawat impormasyon bago ipasa sa iba, kasabay ng giit sa kahalagahan ng pagiging responsable sa paggamit ng social media upang maiwasan ang paglabas ng mga maling balita.
“Social media must not be a tool for deception. We all have a duty to be responsible with the information we consume and share. Misinformation can erode trust, create confusion, and cause distress, especially when it involves a leader as deeply respected as Pope Francis,” paalala ni Romualdez.
Hinimok din ng lider-kongresista ang mga mananampalataya na mag-alay ng panalangin para sa ikabubuti ng kalusugan ng pinakamataas na lider ng Simbahang Katoliko.
“Rather than spreading baseless rumors, let us turn our energy toward prayer and goodwill. Pope Francis inspires millions with his wisdom and compassion, and we pray for his continued strength and good health,” aniya.
Nanawagan din ang Leyte solon sa mga digital platforms operators na palakasin ang paglaban sa disinformation at kasabay ng hirit para sa kaukulang hakbang para pigilan ang papapakalat ng fake news.
“This is a serious issue that demands action. We must work together—governments, media organizations, and tech platforms—to ensure that truth prevails over deception,” ani Romualdez. (ROMEO ALLAN BUTUYAN II)
