SA gitna ng sukdulang init na dulot ng summer season at El Niño phenomenon, naalarma ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) sa anila’y mabilis na pagkatuyo ng Angat Dam na nag susupply ng 90 porsyento ng pamatid-uhaw ng mga residente ng Metro Manila.
Batay sa pagtataya ng ng DENR, hindi malayong bumaba sa 176 metro na lang ang lebel ng tubig sa Angat Dam kung pagbabatayan ang 0.4 metro na arawang bawas sa water level ng pangunahing water source ng 14 milyong katao sa National Capital Region.
Gayunpaman, nilinaw ni DENR Undersecretary of Integrated Environmental Science Carlos Primo David na ang pinangangambahan pagnipis ng imbak na tubig sa Angat ay posible lang kung hindi pa rin bubuhos ang ulan sa buong buwan ng Mayo.
“If the water level goes down at 0.4 of a meter per day, that’s 12 meters per month times 30 days. So nasa 188 tayo meters nung May 1 and if you subtract 12 meters, it will become 176 by June 1, and if you subtract another 12, it will be 164 by July 1,” ani David.
Ayon sa Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), walang dapat ikabahala ang mga residente ng Metro Manila sa ngayon lalo pa’t di pa naman anila bumababa sa 180 meter minimum operating level ang antas ng tubig sa naturang pasilidad.

“Hindi pa alarming yung actual water level. It’s still six meters above the minimum operating level of 180… and in our historical decline of water level, it is still slightly above historical level at this date. What is alarming is the decline of water level. On May 2, it declined by 0.52 of a meter. That is a decline I have not seen in recent times, I would say, because I look at it every day. Maybe in the last three years, walang 0.52,” paglalahad ni David.
